Jehane Hamm

French choreographer based between Paris and Toulouse, starting activities in Berlin.

My artistic research :

I like to find ways to exhaust ideas. I have a strong attraction for a form of "sensitive radicality". It means that I like strong contrats, discontinuity, rhythmic fractures embodied by an anatomical way of moving in a sensitive body.

On top of these materials the dance is inhabited emotionally by drawing on my "black matter" (kind of personal matter, made of memories, obsessions, what we call in psychology the "inner monster").

THE COMPANY La Compagnie du Scarabée - Jehane Hamm is a contemporary dance company founded in 2011 with Jehane Hamm and Meritxell Martin Calvo dancer and choreographer who will found his own structure Compagnie Au pied levé in 2019. Between 2011 and 2015 Jehane explores several research cycles, especially around performance, fall and water (fascias, liquids). She creates a triptych "The flow out", made of two videos where she develops a liquid dance in a parking lot and in a river, places "stray" and not dedicated to dance, which will give rise to a performance on the accumulation of gestures, falls and water flowing live and collected in a pool in which she evolves. In 2017 Léa Sallustro joined the company's team for the La Ramée project combining video and dance. It is a question of exploring new forms of hybridization between contemporary dance and cinema and expanding the possibilities of encounters. To expand this multidisciplinary thinking they invite Erik Bullot, filmmaker, writer and lecturer to speak in the form of a conference/debate around the notion of "living cinema" the project receives a first grant from Spedidam and a co-production from the Jules Julien Theatre in Toulouse. In reaction to this search for the place of the body in the face of the seductive power of the image, the solo project Echine was born. Project around the mobility of the spine and the musicality of movement as engines of multiple imaginations. The project strives to play with the boundaries of the appearance of a human form in constant transformation. In May 2022, the premiere of the show took place in Avignon at the Théâtre de l'Oulle - La Factory. This project receives the support of the DRAC Occitanie, the Haute Garonne Department, the city of Toulouse. For 2024, the company carries the NAQS collaborative project of Alima Hamel and Jehane Hamm, which is interested in the marks left by an Algerian mother tongue partially transmitted.

Echine
Solo 20min

This project around the mobility of the spine is a driving force for multiple imaginations, which play with the boundaries of the appearance/disappearance of a form that is half human, half fauna in constant transformation.

Duo 50min

Conception et interprétation : Alima Hamel et Jehane Hamm

NAQS means "the lack", We have created a piece that deals with the lack of transmission of our Algerian mother tongue. We looked for how this lack marked us in our bodies and voices. We have created a common material to make up for this lack between Alima's medium singing and Jehane's medium dance.

Finally, in parallel with the artistic, I defend a vision of the artist responsible for the development and awareness of his art. I activate my responsibility on the side of a bodily utopia: this body can become a way to thwart social, family, school injustices. There is no destiny any traced according to the environment in which we would have been born, because this body has in itself its own liberating power. It allows access to our infinite imagination, allowing and authorizing us to dream and project ourselves elsewhere, to the point of making it a palpable reality, a dance of an expressive body.
